If you've been a part of the Muskegon Channel audience for a while, or followed Andy and Dave over from the radio days, you know Dave has long been affiliated with Bras for a Cause.  It's an event put on by the Women's Council of Realtors Lakeshore and it benefits the Bluebird Cancer Retreats.  Like any human experience, knowing that you're not alone in your journey through the darkness of something like cancer is why the Bluebird Retreats are there for those battling.  With locations in Spring Lake and Holland, it's a natural for the Women's Council of Realtors Lakeshore to benefit.

Let's begin with the Women's Council of Realtors Lakeshore.  Nancy Bierenga invited me over and Stacey Ruwe join in the conversation.  Their group offers support and training for up and coming realtors.  They host networking events and seminars to help strengthen the abilities of their members and their industry.  As often it happens, a passion project comes out of the membership and Bras for a Cause has been an amazing big success over the years.  The events have moved their way up from Holland toward Muskegon and with this years being at the Trillium on October 29th to benefit Bluebird Cancer Retreats, let's hear about the cause.

From the Bluebird Retreats website - "While attending a Bluebird retreat in North Carolina, Bill Timm, a Spring Lake resident battling cancer, decided to bring Camp Bluebird to West Michigan.  Today, Bluebird hosts five weekend retreats including offerings for newcomers, couples (a survivor and a caregiver) and a reunion gathering. We also hold monthly support groups in Spring Lake/Grand Haven and Holland including a Spanish speaking group. Our name has changed to Bluebird Cancer Retreats of West Michigan but we remain committed to Bill Timm’s dream – a dynamic, healing journey toward emotional and spiritual well-being for persons who experience cancer."

The Bras for a cause event is an energy packed fun way to help.  Guys dress up in ornate bras, and get to work on raising some moolah "working the room" and of course, you'll find all the customary fun.  Wine pulls, gift card pulls, raffles, auctions and more.  There are plenty of vendors to visit who are there to support the cause and there are still sponsorship opportunities to snap up if you'd like your company to get behind the push.  The important part is, those who need the help of the Blubird Retreats.  So much healing and strenght is found in one another, and getting together for a good time to help make that happen, there's no better community in the world to make it happen.
