"Livability Lab is an innovative, community-driven initiative that invites residents, students, businesses, and non-profit organizations throughout Muskegon County to get involved in making positive changes. During the launch event, attendees will share thoughts and concerns about their communities. Then, teams will be formed to address these ideas, and the 100-day challenge begins."  How's that for a stolen quote from a press release to get us started?

Samantha Cornell is the Director, Muskegon Community Health Innovation Region and it's her job to bring together those who have the interest to see dynamic changes happen in this community and those who can help them in a number of ways.  Not only to help steer them with ways to make their ideas sink in a little more, but maybe too with ways to find funding or places for projects to build and grow.  Nothing happens overnight and nothing comes without some effort of one, or many and the idea of the 100 Day Challenge kick off on September 26th is to gather everyone in one place.  The Barclay Event Center on Hackley is where you'll find the event this year beginning at 8a.

Back to the press release - "The first Livability Lab was held in 2019 with a 100-Day Challenge. Since that date 39 action teams have been created and over 600 people have gathered to create positive change in such areas as childcare, expungement, doula access, economic development, neighborhood development, medical debt, literacy and more."  These are areas that maybe a little off the spotlight in our town, but in other areas they are happening a lot and as they build and grow, they are life changers in some cases.  A doula is a trained professional who provides continuous physical, emotional and informational support to their client before, during and shortly after childbirth to help them achieve the healthiest, most satisfying experience possible.  Imagine the impact that has on a single mom who's got no one to turn to?  Expungement clears off the record of non violent offenders.  If you had a record that kept you from a job paying a livable wage....there's no better form of freedom.  These are a couple of innovative ways that change happens and communities improve.

This is a free event to attend.  There will be breakfast and lunch provided for those wo participate and after a brief presentation in the morning the work begins to put ideas in to motion and create the change that lasts for generations beginning by changing the life of individuals and groups for the better today.  CLICK HERE TO GET YOURSELF IN THE DOOR
